First Steps

Well the very first step was taken six years ago with education.

In September 2014 Peter attended the first Australian Passive House training in Melbourne. This was conducted by the German Passive House institute with the tutor travelling from Ireland (In Ireland, Passive House is the minimum building standard allowed by law). Peter was one of only 5 of the attendees to complete the course and to sit the exam. The course covered extensive areas of a building such as, ventilation, insulation, windows and doors, thermal bridging and air tightness.

In March 2015 Peter was notified by the German Passive House Institute that he has successfully gained Passive House Accreditation. Since accreditation Peter has applied many of the principals to most building resulting in improved comfort and energy savings for the home owners.

The planning stage was the first step towards building our Passive House, like any solar passive home the living areas are facing north to enjoy winter sunshine and with shading to exclude the summer sun. Consideration was also given to the products that were being used and how they would work together to achieve Passive House outcomes.
