All the Pretty Things

We think the polished concrete floor is exceptionally pretty, but of course that was prepared ages ago. It has been kept covered up, protecting it from the hazards of building so it’s quite exciting to get the coverings off, give it a final buff and see what it looks like again.

The finished tiling also looks fantastic especially now that it is grouted and all of the components that make up a bathroom can be installed.

Pretty is most definitely the feature walls that have been installed in the living areas, we love them. This system goes together like a dream and I think you’ll agree the finished result in teak looks fantastic and the added benefit is that it promises to contribute to the acoustic comfort of the room.

Another exciting component is the lighting. In the planning stages, we put such a lot of thought into lighting with special consideration to the airtight barrier and how the ceiling was constructed, so have chosen very few ceiling lights and opted instead for directional lights in the main work areas complimented with up lighting and feature lighting in several ares. We can’t wait until the power is switched on and we can see how it all works together.

Painting is also nearly finished, just a simple soft grey for most of the house with a few surprises here and there to create a little bit of interest.

Finally the exterior cladding, this looks amazing,  with just a few finishing touches and trims to go on here and there. The Weathertex has begun the ageing process, but we still have quite away to go before it settles into its final colour.

There are still quite a few decisions to be made but now the focus of the work can move to the outside areas, but all in all we’re on the home straight now and very much looking towards a move in date.

External Cladding

Our focus was to have a low maintenance finish that will last the life of the building, so two different cladding products were chosen, with the different buildings being highlighted with the different finishes.

Cemintel Barestone. With a raw, natural finish we chose Cemintel for the front building, this is a compressed fibre cement product that arrives onsite as a finished product therefore does not require sealers, paint or any future maintenance. It is also water blocking and fire resistant so should maintain its good looks for many years.

Weathertex Weathergroove. This is a natural product made of 97% hardwood and is pressed into panels to create a woodgrain effect. It is also a finished product which if left unsealed, as we have chosen, will age gracefully over time. We can already notice the difference from the initial shade so we’re excited to watch it fade and settle into its final colour.
